After my mother died I didn't go back home to new york, I went straight from where the funeral was to Alabama, which is where my brothers and sisters live(6 of us altogether). We needed each other. It was November of last year that I got there, I bought a car for a few hundred dollars, just to get around while I was there. Before I could get the car registered, about one week after I bought it, I was pulled over for not having tags. Before the officer even asked for license I was pulled from car, put in handcuffs, my car and my kids were searched. 5 police cars turned up to the scene, including 2 officers on the vice squad. After seeing my id was from New York the vice officers became nasty with me. They said that I should go back if I'm smart and that I would soon find out how they do things in dothan al if I didn't. They questioned my legal right to be in the US and cracked jokes about me being an immigrant. I'm American, born and raised. I was pulled over 4 more times after that day,  and each time I was pulled from my car placed in hand cuffs and my car, myself and anyone I was with were violated. The last time I saw these officers(yes the same officers were involved at each incident) I was at my girlfriends house with my son. We had just finished eating dinner and the police knocked on the door. I opened the door and was asked to step outside.I told the officer I would comply but was going to put a shirt on first. The officer kicked the door open and snatched me outside. Within ten minutes I was placed in the back of a squad car. At that point they said I was being arrested for disorderly conduct. I watched as a number of police officers huddled around my girlfriend threatening her. They wanted to search her house. After they searched her home I was charged with 5 felonies and the officer who took the arrest bragged to me in the back of the car, after I refused to give a statement, he said "We got you now,  you're going to do at least 2-3 years." I am completely innocent of these charges I face. However I am very afraid of what might happen to me. It seems as though everyone in this town from the judge to the court appointed lawyers are used to allowing these racist bullies on the dothan police force to do things like this. I would like to raise these 7,000.00 to pay for a lawyer,  but I don't want it to stop there. I want to expose this behavior in this police department. I want to help bring change to the way these police are terrorizing this city. I don't want to stop there either. I want to go on to find other towns like this where people are being harassed and terrorized by their police departments. I want to hire a team of investigators and a film crew to document everything for the nation to see what exactly is wrong with our police force in America. Right now I am of the opinion that we need better hiring standards. At my preliminary hearing, the officer who testified showed a serious lack of integrity by lying through his teeth. He had a swastika tattoo, wasn't even trying to hide it,  and a skinned head. No physical evidence was presented at this hearing, so I still don't even know what it is they say they found. My charges should have been dropped at this hearing, they were not. They have not set a date for trial and meanwhile I'm stuck paying monthly a bondsman so as not to be sitting in jail waiting for a trial date. Please find the courage to stand with me in this.  Even if only to speak about what I've shared with you. I have been targeted by the Dothan Alabama  police department for being a different skin color. This must not stand in our time.
