We are a blended family but both ( myself and my husband) have custody of our children. My son being 17 ( Tommy) and my husband's son (Chase) being 10. My husband and I have not been married long at all when we rented our very 1st home in August 2022. Life was looking good and could only get better right? Well that October of the same year we were woken by the local fire and police department frantically telling us to all evacuate...so we all did as instructed along with out cat and dog. Thank God nobody was harmed and we will always be grateful for that for rest of our lives. Like I said it was a rental so we assumed that since there were not any smoke and/or fire alarms anywhere in house that our landlords would handle everything because we had not yet looked into rental insurance. Unfortunately that was not the case! The house had to be completely rewired because after the investigation it was electrical. It took almost a month for all repairs to be completely done. We did stay in a hotel the first 3 days after fire but since we had to come out of pocket for the hotel stay we could not afford to pay another night. Our landlords never offered to help , pay for, or even partially pay for hotel for my family. We were told that half of the house is fine but we had no access to kitchen or washer and dryer. Since my son's room was on side of house where fire started bless his heart he lost a lot more items that are detrimental to a 17 years old. We still had to pay our full amount of rent even though we had no kitchen, no gas, and no washer and dryer. So basically for a month we had to eat out and wash clothes at laundromat. If that wasn't bad enough 3 weeks after fire I was laid off from my job. We still have not completely bounced back and I was able to draw unemployment for a while but that stopped about a month ago and I have been looking non stop for a job any job. We are a family that lives paycheck to paycheck but both cars have been repossessed and we have not been on time with rent since fire. My family would so gratefully appreciate any help with replacing things lost and catching up on bills.
