In 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti, at the request of adolescent girls in a displaced persons camp, I facilitated a poetry and story telling workshop.   A remarkable young Haitian poet led most of the sessions.Haiti is in trouble.  The poet, who I am not naming for her security,  is now married, has a baby and no employment. With tremendous perserverance she got a degree and became a nurse.  LIke so many she is living  without food or money in  fear. I am raising funds for her to travel with her son and husband to her parent's in a house in a province where they can be safer. If you can help her that would be wonderful.   In the torah it says that saving one life is saving the world.

I asked my poet friend to write about being in Haiti today.

She wrote a poem in Creole, and she translated it into English:

We see earthquakes.  We see houses shaking. We hear Hurricane announcements. We hear things, yes, We see things, yes, that frighten us.  Nature is furious.  Fires, Homes in ruins Endless quarrels Brigands everywhere. Violence rising. There is  misery until infinity. Families living under palm trees are struggling with sacrifice. Living in a world of vice, yes. We fear too many things we see.
