Buford isn’t just a mounted elk head—he’s part of the town. He’s been watching over conversations, celebrations, hard days, good nights, and generations of locals for decades. He was a gift, a symbol, and a quiet reminder of Kiowa’s roots and tight-knit community.
Time, unfortunately, has not been kind.
Buford’s taxidermy is starting to fail. Seams are giving out. Mounting is weakening. He’s literally falling apart—and if we don’t step in now, he could be lost for good.
We’re raising funds to have Buford professionally restored by a qualified taxidermist so he can stay right where he belongs: on the wall, holding history, stories, and memories.
