At 9:00 am on Sunday, August 22nd Emily will be introducing the Get-My-Life-Backstroke! This “Swim-a-Thon” is not a race. We will not be setting a distance or beating a time. This is an exercise in self-love.
Starting near Down the Hatch, accompanied by friends and the Candlewood Lake Authority, Emily plans to swim until she cannot swim anymore!
The past 18 months have transformed nearly every aspect of our world. We have all been faced with uncertainty, instability, helplessness, and unrelenting exhaustion.
And, we have risen.

Message from Emily:
Over the past year and a half, I fought through illness that overwhelmed my body and infected my mind. I am sure I am not the only person juggling mental health and physical health diagnoses. For those of you who are dealing with cancer, Lyme disease, Bipolar, and other mental health conditions or thoughts of self-harm and suicide… you are not alone. You matter.
This is a chance to renew. I want to redefine my odds. I want to recover. I will continue this journey with ferocity and strength. I will beat breast cancer. I will tackle Lyme disease. I will control my Bipolar disorder.
Most importantly… I will do amazing things. I wish to encourage and uplift others. I hope to be a lifeline, a resource, and an inspiration to anyone else who is struggling.
If you are having thoughts about harming yourself, please get help now: Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. Call 1-800-273-TALK (8255), or Text “START” to 741-741
