Since April, we have been working hard to change the city code that requires residents to mow wildflowers down like weeds and improve management of an ordinance designed to protect them. In the meantime, our beautiful pocket prairie has been targeted and fined. The city even fined each of us for the same "violation", resulting in $782 we have fought in municipal court. They cut it down to $291 and said they could not dismiss it entirely. We have dedicated countless hours and taken time off work to work on this city issues and fight for wildflowers but are too exhausted to try to go to trial over it and take more time off. We are asking for your help to pay the court fees as we continue to work to improve the city ordinance, raise awareness, and educate our residents and city staff on the importance of residential pocket prairies.
Any funds raised past the court fees will be used to purchase native seeds and starters to give away at an early Spring community event for pocket prairies!
