On February 27th, 2023, I suffered a fall walking home from work. I ended up with lumbar spine damage and it took until July 28th to get surgery. Surgery ended up being more extensive than first thought and I haven't fully recovered from that. About 9 days after surgery, I began telling my surgeon's PA that something was wrong, my incision was itching and burning and had a knot in it. Without even looking at it, she said that's normal, the itching is healing and the knot is because they cut through muscle. For weeks, I keep telling her, and home health nurses, but kept getting the same response. The knot grew until the incision busted open after fully closing. I called the surgeon's office and they asked me to text pictures to the nurse. I did so and she referred me to the surgeon who performed the incision. He was out of the office, so I saw his PA. She put me on 3 antibiotics and told me to come back in a week. A week later I was in the ER from a fall that rendered temporary paralysis. I called and asked to reschedule. They said my insurance authorization was up and I needed a referral to see them again. Meanwhile the abscess had grown to the size of a grapefruit. I go the next week to see my PCP to get the referral which took another week. I finally was seen on September 18 and scheduled for a quick surgery to remove the abscess on September 19th as it had ruptured on the 17th. That was 15 days ago, and I am still in the hospital attached to a wound vac and IV antibiotics because I ended up with multiple strains of staph, strep, and a couple of other bacteria I can not spell or pronounce. I am being treated by an infectious disease doctor because my infection is being antibiotic resistant. I need to continue the antibiotics for at least 6 weeks, but due to the weakness in my veins from the infection I can not discharge to home health because I need round the clock care. Problem is, my insurance will only provide 30 more days of care, whether it be in the hospital or a nursing home. The latter I am headed to in a couple of days. Without continuing treatment, I will very likely die. But I can in no way afford to stay in the hospital or a nursing home after insurance stops paying. I honestly don't know what to do at this point. I have a child that needs her momma. If you can't help, please share. Hopefully people somewhere can. Thank you.
I'm getting booted out of the nursing home tomorrow and I have absolutely nowhere to go and no resources. I'm at my wits end here.
