Piper has a rare chromosome abnormality called Inverted Duplicated Deletion of the 8p Chromosome. This little change presents some big challenges for our sweet girl and she deals daily with profound physical and developmental delays. Weekly, Piper typically sees 5 different therapists for speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy. In 2015, when Piper was 3 years old {Drew and Hannah} started researching intensive therapy options and some specialized therapy options that we thought would be a good fit for our girl. In 2016, after our first Perfectly Imperf8ct Barn Party Fundraiser, we traveled to California for Piper’s first three week session at the NAPA center and, hard as it was, we found that it was a great fit for her and she saw great gains and her confidence soared.
We try to take Piper to 2-3 intensives per year now, as it fits into our family schedule, and as finances allow. Each intensive costs about $4000-5000 out of pocket and we typically pour all of Drew's time off into these times as well.
In addition to Piper’s intensive therapies we are looking at some large expenses like an adaptive vehicle and attaching a garage to our home to make sure we can get her in and out safely.
2020 Was supposed to be our year for our third Barn Party (our goal has been to have one every two years), but "Rona" threw us for a loop for longer than we would like to admit and we are just getting around to our bi annual event five years later. Oops! Thanks to some community events that supported our family, as well as various donations made over the last few years we have been able to continue to pursue these therapies. While we hope our community can join us at our in person event, we know that isn't possible for everyone so we do try and keep a donation page open as well.
