As you all know, Hurricane Melissa recently devastated parts of my home country and is having a tragic impact on many islanders. So many of you have asked about my family back home and it means the world to me. We have finally heard back from my brother who lives in Manchester even though phone calls and internet connections continue to be spotty. We are happy that he is safe but as a father of a young daughter, food and water are scarce and hard to access and immediate relief is necessary.

My immediate family are trying our best to help him and his family afford access to water, food, and supplies to rebuild the damage to the house but we cannot do it alone. It is such a hard thing to have to ask for help in this way, but with people making desperate choices amid the slow relief and lots of people not having access to even basic sanitary items, the re-securing of his home is essential for his health and safety. Grocery stores are also not stocked and further travel is necessary, costly, and risky to get basic needs. Though he is looking to get back to work, the roads are too far damaged to rely on a steady income any time soon.

I am humbly asking you to donate anything you can to help keep him afloat until it is possible to return to work. Any money donated will be directly used for food, water, basic hygiene items, and aiding to repair the water damage and getting a replacement front door as the house is currently without one. It's a very humbling position to be in to not be able to do this with just my family, so thank you so much for anyone who has reached out and anyone who is able to donate or even just forward this to someone who you think could help.
