I hope this letter finds you well.
My name is Julian Haines. I currently serve in the community as a full-time Emergency Medical Technician caring for our friends and family in the surrounding Duluth and Superior communities.
I am writing to ask you to support me and my educational goals while continuing through college to obtain my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently enrolled at Capella University. I started my first course on January 6th, 2025.
I have selected this college due to living independently and having to balance work and school. This program will allow me to complete my goals in an online format.
From age 7 to age 18, I was a foster child through St. Louis County. Through foster care, I battled childhood trauma and completed a trauma-based therapy program. I am now acting and furthering my education to help those who have similar experiences as I did.
My goal is to obtain a job in St. Louis County, Douglas County, Carlton County, or Itasca County supporting and helping child adolescent individuals.
Due to some hardships that I have faced, I am writing to ask for your support in my goal of $10,000 towards tuition, books, supplies, and living expenses while attending school.
Currently, I am working shift work, overtime, and holidays. Each day I support the community and see the high demand for counseling services and am driven to complete my goal of a master’s program with your help!
For a better understanding of my life experiences and need for assistance, I will provide the most recent background history of the life challenges I have recently faced.
On October 25th, 2022, while working in the ambulance service, I had to seek emergency department care for supraventricular tachycardia. During this stay, a series of invasive procedures were performed. On October 27th, 2022, was my first appointment with cardiology. Following a series of clinic appointments, on December 29th, 2022, I had my first cardiac ablation. Due to typically being a healthy individual, I had to pay my out-of-pocket maximum, $2600.00.
Post operation, January 1st, 2023, I was advised to seek emergency services for possible sepsis post-procedure. During this time, my length of stay off work was approximately 12 days.
February 19th, 2023 again was in the emergency department for a snowmobile accident causing a right shoulder dislocation. Due to a new year of insurance, I again was paying an out-of-pocket deductible. I was advised I could not work for three months. During that time, I received compensation, but due to medical bills, and the inability to work, I took a large hit to my savings account.
In June 2023, a personal relationship ended, and I had to find a place to live. Moving expenses with a rental deposit including furnishing an apartment caused a significant loss of money.
July 21st, 2023, I was rear-ended by an impaired driver. Case # 69DU-CR-23-2699. Due to the driver not having insurance, I had to make a difficult decision to attempt to obtain the cost in court or submit it to my insurance company. I fought in court for payment of damages and
Successfully the driver was ordered to pay. Unfortunately, the driver has not paid since being ordered and has been sent to collections on the matter.
September 28th, 2023, while driving home from work, I struck a deer on US Highway 2, resulting in my vehicle having to be towed and repaired. During this time, my vehicle was not drivable, and left me borrowing/loaning vehicles. Additionally, finding rides to and from my vehicle in the shop.
January 1st, 2024, I was again admitted into the emergency department for another incident with my heart. I was treated and again had to seek services with cardiology thereafter. On April 19th, 2024, I underwent another cardiac ablation. Post-operative care was no work for approximately 7 days. So far it has been successful with little setbacks.
January 24th, 2024, while driving into town, I struck another deer damaging the front left quarter panel of my car resulting in another insurance claim and a week without a vehicle for repairs.
April 19th, 2024, second cardiac ablation with post-operative recovery.
