Meet Opal: Learning to Trust Again
When we first met Opal, it was clear she hadn’t had an easy life.
Everything scared her. Loud voices, quick movements, new places. But what broke my heart the most was how afraid she was of men. Even being in the same room could make her completely shut down. You could see how badly she wanted to feel safe… she just didn’t know how.
There was something about her though. Even in those early days, underneath all that fear, you could see how gentle and sweet she really is.
When Opal became part of our family, we knew earning her trust would take time. We’ve tried to give her exactly what she needs. Patience. Soft voices. Space when she asks for it. Love without pushing her too fast.
And slowly, she’s been changing.
One of the biggest milestones for us has been watching her begin to feel a little more comfortable around men. It’s not perfect and we still have a long way to go, but now she’ll sometimes stay in the room instead of running away. She’ll watch instead of panic. Those small moments are huge for her.
We celebrate every single one.
Opal is trying so hard. She’s already come so far, and I’m so proud of her.
But she still needs help to keep moving forward and to truly feel safe in the world. That’s why we’re raising funds to support her continued progress, including:
• Positive, gentle training to help her feel more confident around new people
• Support for her anxiety so she can relax and feel secure
• Safe, slow socialization experiences that help her build trust
• Ongoing care so she always knows she’s loved and protected
Every contribution helps us give Opal the tools she needs to keep growing.
She may always carry pieces of her past, but I truly believe she can have a future where she feels safe, confident, and happy.
Thank you for supporting her journey and believing in her as much as we do. 💛
