A Girl and Her Crocodile is a one-act opera composed by Molly Wong. The opera tells the story of an isolated little girl searching for her place in the world with her imaginary friend, a raucous crocodile. A Girl and Her Crocodile is an opera that will entertain and challenge you. It has humor and whimsy as well as the deep feelings and conflicts that many of us wrestled with growing up as we searched for our own identities.
On March 30th, 2024 we conducted a workshop performance of "A Girl and Her Crocodile" in Distler Hall at Tufts University. Currently the opera is in the process of revision and completion. On March 14th, 2025 we will be presenting a piano/vocal production with costumes and some staging as a step toward a full production in the Fall of 2025--and we need your help.
This opera was made possible with the support of my composition teacher Howard Frazin, my Tufts University professor and the pianist for the opera John McDonald, soprano Kristen Watson, and mezzo-soprano Krista River. Their contributions were critical during the composition process and in preparing the opera for the workshop performance this past March.
We need your contribution to produce the March 2025 piano/vocal performance, and we must raise $5000 by January 15th, to pay for two singers, a pianist, a costume and prop designer, props, puppets and costumes, and a stage director.
Your support is appreciated! The performance will be free to the public, and we hope that you will contribute and attend.
Thank You!
Molly Wong, Composer of "A Girl and Her Crocodile"
