I am a 65-year-old single woman. Never imagined I would find myself in this situation. 8 yrs ago was married and we started a franchise restaurant, then 2 yrs later purchased a second location. Then COVID hit........ I finally understand what it means when people say "hindsight is 20/20". Purchasing the second location was just to keep me completely occupied running 2 restaurants that were 3 hrs apart. While I was trying to keep both restaurants open and running during COVID, my husband was playing Xbox and learning about Philippine women willing to do whatever it takes to get an American male. So, in 2022, I was served with divorce papers. We had also purchased a bar that he was running. He remained as the president of our corporation and withdrew $9000.00 a month in wages. It took over 18 months to get him out of the corporation, but during that time, he drained the accounts. So, in October of 2023, I had no choice but to close our second location. I soon found out that my ex-husband was not as business savvy as he thought he was. He had both locations under the same corporation. So, closing our second location 2 years early (rent & franchise agreement royalties) caused me to have to file a Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy. I have worked out all the debts except the IRS, and they will not be part of the repayment plan approved through the bankruptcy court. I have to come up with $57,000.00, or I will lose my entire investment and retirement. I have tried to get personal loans, but my ex-husband also ruined my credit the last year of our marriage while I was busy running the restaurants, he was not paying my bills and keeping the notices from me. But he is happy and remarried to his Philippine wife, who is half my age (the age of our daughters) and living in our forever dream home. I was a fool, and he played me. I became one of those women who you tell your girlfriends not to put up with that crap and kick him to the curb. When you are in the middle of it, you feel trapped and lost. Now I am just trying to keep my restaurant, but the IRS agent is refusing to work with me and is demanding payment in full for back taxes. If anyone has any ideas or knows of places that may help, please let me know. This is my last resort. Thank you for reading my story.
