5 years ago, I enrolled my daughter, Finley, in recreational dance classes. It wasn't long before her passion and dedication for dance became obvious to everyone around her. The minute the music began, she would lose herself in it. It was then that I knew I needed to enroll her in competitive dance. Not only could I see how happy it made her, but I was frequently approached by those who watched her, telling me how fun she was to watch and how she stood out.
Since then, I have done everything I can to keep her dancing competitively. She has gone to numerous dance directives, learning from accredited professionals, and earning multiple scholarships for her skill and effort. Her performances at competitions have not only brought home an enormous amount of ribbons, medals, and trophies, but she has also been selected twice to attend national competitions as a showcase dancer. She even competed in the Bill Riley Talent Search this past year.
Anyone who competes in any sport knows it can be INCREDIBLY expensive. Dance is no different. From costume and shoe costs to admissions, travel, and hotel expenses, it has become nearly impossible to keep up with as a single parent and sole benefactor to her journey. On top of this, her sisters have both discovered their love of dance, and have joined her in these experiences.
Today Finley is asking for your help. Without it, she will have to quit doing what she truly loves, and the thought of that absolutely kills me. Please help my daughter continue to pursue her dream and passion. Not only does she get to do her favorite thing in the whole world, but dancing competitively provides her with the opportunity to gain a number of incredibly important life skills including, but not limited to: how to work as a team, receive constructive criticism, work tirelessly to obtain a goal, value self-improvement, win and lose respectfully, overcome challenges, and develop self-confidence.
