Hi friends,

We are putting this fundraiser together for Mara, Ryan, and their 3yo daughter Alana Bennett.

In June, their world changed when their beautiful, bright, curly-haired little girl was diagnosed with CNS Neuroblastoma - a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer that only affects children within the first few years of life.

After an abrupt change in her vision, Alana was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Denver. In the ER, they discovered a sizable tumor had formed in her brain, large enough to impact the optic nerve of her eye.  By the end of the week, they found themselves handing off their precious little girl to the neurosurgeons at Children's to remove the tumor.  By month's end, Alana was beginning a 9-month run of increasingly intensive chemotherapies which will conclude with radiation therapy in Arizona.

Watching your child battle cancer is every parent’s worst nightmare. Alana was swept away from her home, her friends, and her school.  Everything she has known in these formative years was taken from her overnight.  These treatments are devastating and the toll on her tiny body has already begun.  There is no going back, this will forever change and affect her life.

This is going to be a long, difficult road for the whole family. While they do have health insurance, there are still enormous costs they’re facing. Alana's ongoing medical care and future needs continue to develop as doctors individualize her treatment plan.  She will undoubtably need the support of her family, doctors, and friends for all her life.

Alana is a truly miraculous little girl, genuine and full of life.  She is scared, we all are, but she knows she is strong.  Every day she breaks through the fear, makes her nurses and family laugh, and pulls each of us back to the joy in life.

There is no doubt that Mara, Ryan and their families will do everything in their power to support Alana through this challenge.  Let’s show the Bennett’s they’re not alone. Thank you for helping make this time just a little bit easier on a family who’s facing the unimaginable.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

With Love,

Liz and Lily

If you are able to donate, please know that every dollar goes to the trust created in Alana's name and helps ensure Mara and Ryan can focus on what matters most: getting her the care she needs and being present for their family. For larger donations please contact the family directly.  If you can’t give financially, sharing this page means just as much.

Wednesday, April 22, 2026 is a day the Bennetts will never forget. Yesterday was the day Alana’s dream came true, and she got to ring the bell!

She has reached an extraordinary milestone, completing treatment with remarkable resilience. Throughout this hard-fought journey, she showed strength and spirit far beyond her years, facing each challenge with courage.

Alana has successfully had both her port and G-tube removed. Her T-cells—a type of white blood cell essential to the immune system—have fully recovered post-transplant, her brain has returned to normal, and she has been CLEARED for all normal kid activities!

After countless appointments, treatments, and long days, she stood tall and rang the bell—marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another full of possibilities. What once felt far away is now a reality, and it carries with it so much hope for the future.

This moment reflects not only her determination, but also the care and dedication of the medical team and the steady support of family, friends, and community. Every message, prayer, and act of kindness made a difference and helped carry the Bennetts through this incredibly challenging time.

While the road here was not easy, it was met with unwavering perseverance. Today is a celebration of strength, healing, and everything that lies ahead—and a reminder of just how much can be overcome.

We love you, Alana, Mara, and Ryan!

We are so excited to share that 280 days since the start of their journey the Bennett’s are finally HOME!!!

Alana has 6 weeks of rest and healing before the scans that will allow her to officially ring the big bell in Denver and remove her port. 🤞🏼

She is still within 100 days since her last stem cell transplant and will have to remain on precautions until early April. The Bennett’s hope to avoid any bonus trips to the doctor in the coming weeks. Being an immunocompromised kiddo is tough but Alana is feeling awesome and getting stronger every day.

While this milestone feels incredible, this journey is not over and our little warrior will need ongoing therapies and support to manage the detrimental effects of chemo throughout her life.

The Bennett’s are grateful to be surrounded by such a wonderful community and are excited to be back home! Your love and support have made it all possible!

Hello friends and family,

As we are in the final week of radiation, we wanted to share a quick update on Alana. She continues to do incredibly well. The main side effect she’s experiencing is some redness and irritation where the radiation is happening, but thankfully she hasn’t had any other significant side effects.

Over the past few weeks, Lily, Stephen, and Ryan’s parents were able to visit, and we’ve enjoyed celebrating the many March birthdays together. Those moments of family time have meant so much during this stretch.

Mara has not yet returned to work and remains focused on helping Alana finish treatment and regain strength in the weeks ahead. While the time away has been financially challenging, she finds comfort knowing she’ll be returning to the Aspen Daily News this summer and that she is surrounded by such incredible support from friends and family.

Ryan is fortunate enough to be spending the last five days of treatment with his girls and going to daily appointments. This coming weekend is the most important milestone of ringing the radiation bell and bringing his girls home!

The Bennett’s truly could not have made it this far without the love, encouragement, and support from each of you. Thank you for continuing to lift this family up during such a challenging time. We are all so grateful.

Alana began radiation on Monday, and we’re so grateful to share that she’s doing well so far. 💪✨

The team at Mayo has been incredible.  Her child life specialist turns each day into an adventure with crafts, scavenger hunts, and even Nerf Gun battles. Because of them, hospital days feel a little more fun.

The Bennett’s are soaking up the Arizona sunshine and beautiful weather, which has been such a gift during this time. There is still a long road ahead, but for the first time, the end is starting to feel real which fills them with gratitude and hope. Ryan has been able to be in AZ for the first week of Alana’s treatment and will continue to fly back and forth to Aspen.

In true Alana fashion, she’s also discovered a brand-new passion along the way: chemistry! She’s quickly becoming the cutest little scientist, curious about everything and reminding us daily of her strength, joy, and spark.

Thank you to everyone who has supported team Bennett and walked beside them on this journey. Every bit of love means more than they can say.

We are so happy to share some wonderful news about Alana and her family. They are officially done with chemo, transplants, and the most difficult and intense healing phase of treatment—a huge and hopeful milestone!

Following chemo, Alana faced two serious blood infections and had to undergo surgery to remove her central lines. She now has a port instead, which comes with a big win: she can take real baths and even swim again! Perfect timing, as the family is moving to Arizona this weekend and looking forward to a fresh start and a change of pace.

The family is incredibly grateful that Alana is a candidate for focal proton radiation and that Mayo Clinic has accepted her for treatment. During this phase, they’ll be staying in an Airbnb, and thanks to the generosity of Elijah’s Heart House, a grant was extended to help cover lodging so it’s not fully out of pocket.

Most importantly, Alana is doing very well. She’s eating again, her appetite is back, she’s getting stronger every day—and her silly spark is back in full force. Seeing her joy return has been everything.

While in Arizona, Mara will stay with Alana full time, and Ryan will fly weekly from ASE to PHX to balance work while spending as much time as possible with his girls.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this family with love, prayers, and generosity. Your continued support truly means the world to them. 💙
