Hello there. My name is Devyn, and I'm a full time Direct Support caregiver. I was living in my van when I first became pregnant with my son, Ivyn. We have since been living with wonderful family friends who have helped us generously both through the stable place to be, as well as through their company and advice provided to us. My partner now also works full time at a store in the town where we live.
I became houseless originally after an ex partner of mine demanded I give up the two bedroom home I was renting and quit my job to spend every second with them and live under their thumb. I was broken down so much that I felt I couldn't survive without them. After finally breaking free from their reign with my family's encouragement, I was a worker through my city for a performing arts center.
After building confidence through that job I ended up finding employment where I currently am working, a field I feel I was born to work in (supporting people through personal care). I have worked in the same group home for about a year now, and I love every second of it.
The pay for a caregiver is however less than ideal and I'm having trouble reaching the goal I want to achieve before my son is due to be born in late October. This goal is to start my home ownership journey so that my son will never deal with houselessness, no matter where his life takes him.
Currently I am halfway there! But I need another 5 thousand dollars for my down payment. I am confident that I will be able to get there alone, but having some help would give me a much better chance of finding a place with enough room for him BEFORE he is here.
Any amount of money would greatly be appreciated, even a dollar donation. I am so thankful for you even reading through this. Thank you so much,
Devyn.
