Individuals fleeing domestic violence and unhoused transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming adults are at heightened risk for poor mental health outcomes. While Denver offers a variety of services, most are siloed, require health insurance or stable housing, or
have long waitlists. Case management services that are free, trauma-informed, and affirm survivors’ and gender-diverse individuals lived experiences are severely limited.

Free case management services are urgently needed to fill these critical gaps. Case managers provide more than referrals. They act as consistent advocates who help clients navigate complex systems, connect with housing and healthcare, access benefits, and build pathways to long-term stability. For individuals whose lives are shaped by intersecting oppressions such as gender-based violence, homelessness, and mental illness, case management is often the difference between ongoing crisis and the opportunity to heal and thrive.

While structured programs offer initial recovery momentum, that progress can quickly unravel without someone to help clients navigate real-world obstacles: securing identification, attending follow-up appointments, managing paperwork for Medicaid or SNAP, applying for jobs, or resolving probation issues. Without continued guidance, even a missed bus, lost phone, or denied application can spiral into
a return to substance use or homelessness. Free case management ensures these setbacks remain manageable instead of destabilizing. By maintaining regular contact, case managers help individuals remain focused, connected, and encouraged.
