Please, Help Me Rebuild and Restart After Years of Hardship
Introduction:
Hello, everyone. My name is Kenneth Edwards, and I'm reaching out to you today with a humble request for support. For the past three years, I've been living in my Jeep Cherokee in Los Angeles CA, and the challenges I've faced have been immense. From paying $3500+ in parking tickets, to overcoming communication barriers with family. Today, I'm here to share my story, my dreams, and how your kindness can help me get back on my feet.
Background:
Before the pandemic hit in 2019, I worked tirelessly in a warehouse, doing blue-collar work. However, as COVID-19 spread within our workplace, proper sanitization protocols were neglected, resulting in multiple employees falling ill, myself included. It was a difficult decision, but I had to part ways with that job. The fear of potentially infecting my immune-compromised mother, who had survived a near-fatal bout with spinal meningitis, was too much to bear. The guilt weighed heavily on me, and the strain on our relationship grew.
Living in My Car:
To find some semblance of stability and give both my mother and myself the space we needed, I made the difficult choice to live in my car. While trying to secure consulting and leasing opportunities for apartments, I faced the challenges of maintaining my hygiene and living up to my own high standards of health. The lack of a solid support network further added to the difficulties I faced. Becoming unable to sustain employment in a field where I aspired to achieve my goals.
Overcoming Obstacles:
Despite the hardships, I sought therapy and worked tirelessly, delivering food and packages on 12-hour shifts of gig work. Gradually, I started rebuilding my life piece by piece. I managed to pay off two credit cards, make small payments towards my student loans, and even obtain health insurance. It was a significant turning point, and I was proud of my progress.
Current Challenge:
However, just as I began to see a glimmer of hope, tragedy struck. On June 24th, my car, my sole means of transportation, income, and shelter, was wrecked in an accident. I was on my way to celebrate the life of a dear friend when heavy exhaustion set in, leading to the unfortunate collision. This setback has left me devastated financially and uncertain of how to move forward.
UPDATE: thanks to the combined efforts of everyone who’s helped so far. I was able to reinstate my insurance and have the accident covered. However, since I am still out of a car, and therefore work. I still need a little help getting to the next step. I’ll be out of a car for a little bit, but I’ll be able to get a new car pretty soon.
