My name is Mrs. Appiah and I am the lead teacher for the Behavior Support and Intervention program at Carleston Elementary in Pearland ISD. When students join our program, we try to focus on teaching them self-awareness and emotional regulation. This can be a daunting task for a young child and emotional awareness is hard, even for adults, but we do our best to use visual and real-life situations to teach. Zones of regulation are a big part of what we teach, but it can be hard for students to identify the zone they are in or the early stages of escalation.  If students had access to these bands, it would be an invaluable tracking tool to help them learn what their bodies feel in certain zones and to see the coping techniques we teach work in real time.

The goal would be for students to train and practice self-regulation with the device for a set number of weeks, then slowly graduate to learning their bodies and regulating without them, so a new set of students will be able to take advantage of and grow from the tools. Emotional awareness and self-regulation are vital to our students' growth in school and in life, as well as a key factor in keeping our schools safe. Please help us raise money to support our students' emotional well-being and safety.
