I love walking, it's uplifting to be out in the world. I walk to work and most days I'm on my feet all day. Although I don't earn much, it's a job I like and the workplace has great energy. After injuring my legs, I went from walking miles to using a cane for just a block. Now I'm not supposed to put weight on them. So I applied for state assistance, and although it took time, I eventually received medical and food aid. However, I still lack income for rent and basics. Applying for unemployment was an option, but I was denied since I'm unable to work. The process was lengthy and appealing takes just as long. It's clear that many face similar challenges, and this is often how people become homeless. The lesson i would like to share: if you walk a lot or simply on your feet pay attention to your legs if they seem off they can break fast.
