"Shahd is a Palestinian scholarship student in New York, who dreams of graduating with a degree in human rights and written arts. Shahd’s education in Gaza was disrupted by the brutal bombing campaign and destruction of her university and home. After witnessing months of death and devastation, and enduring unimaginable hardship, she, her siblings, and her mother escaped the bombardment to Egypt. There, through her tireless efforts to continue her education, she obtained a full scholarship to college in New York. Her scholarship covers tuition, but not room and board.
An accomplished journalist and poet, Shahd’s writing paints an unforgettable portrait of her struggles and resilience. She is an able narrator of the experience of her family and the Palestinian people, their trials and persistence, their joys and sorrows. She sees herself as a role model for adolescents, able to guide, motivate and support them. She loves to dance and share her love of literature; some of her favorites are poets Rumi and Emily Dickinson as well as Palestinian writers Mahmoud Darwixh, Ghassan Khanafani, Edward Said and Haidar Eid.
Through her journalism and advocacy, Shahd represents the voices of those affected by conflict and strives to bring attention to the human cost of war and displacement. Her work is a testament to the strength and resilience of individuals in the face of adversity.
Funds are desperately needed to help Shahd fulfill her dream of finishing college so she can live, write, and earn a living to help her family and the devastated people of Gaza."
Can we count on you to help Shahd? Any amount is welcome which will help us reach our goal of $25,000."
