Jessica works for a leading faith-based, grassroots non-profit. The organization asked a grantor in 2022 for additional funding to give her more hours for her position, however, funding did not come through until February 2023 so from August 2022 until February 2023, Jess had a very tiny paycheck. While this was going on her car broke down and she had ito choose between fixing her car or paying her rent.  During this timeframe she became ill. Between the illness and car repairs, it left her owing two rent payments and her car needing repairs again.  She has exhausted all efforts to try to get charitable help.  Jess works as a Tenant Organizer helping people protect their rights from eviction.  She is now facing eviction herself. The time has come for people to help Jess!  Please consider donating to help someone who has helped so many people!  Thank you!

This is the final update for this site from Jessica…

Decision/Order finally given today, 1 week after court.  Judgement for the land lord, writ and orders were mailed out to him today.  Most likely this Tuesday coming up, (4/5 days away) the sheriff will knock on my door to lock me out (I say me because Have will be where he will be staying ahead of time to avoid all this). Checking with landlord to see if it will be this week or next.  I'm sure he's not trying to do me any favors at this point so I'm finishing up packing as quick as I can. Posting a few things to try and sell and getting the rest moved to storage that we won't need on us a month to 2.

this is from Jessica:

Wanted to give those following this an update, sorry it wasn't sooner.  I had some rest to catch back up on. It's now Sunday night and I'm back to thinking and wondering what's to come myself, which reminded me you might be also.  As things stood Thursday when we left court, we were waiting for the judges decision since she was unable to make one on the spot. Hopefully I raised enough valid defenses and concerning questions on due process and court rules to either get a chance at redoing the agreement with all cards on the table (mine were at least) or ordered back to a fresh hearing. I'll be checking with the court daily. In the meantime I am looking for an apartment with an immediate opening, 1 or 2 bedrooms for me and my son.

In a side note, was thinking of doing the roommate thing but logistics and needs make it harder. Better for both not to. ( so grateful for the community's help, with the contributions I can meet compliancy and if he gets the writ of pocession I have the ability to quickly move on an apartment and immediately put down my security deposit and first month's rent which sometime can be a helpful deciding factor for some landlords. Something I speak on about how it's 1 more thing that hurts the low income tenant when apartment searching.)

This is a message from Jessica to all the people who helped her:

Court is tomorrow at 10am on the 2nd floor at Manchester District Court/Amherst St.

If anyone has the time available and does feel like watching, feel free (it will not bother me or make me nervous). This is not required, nor will it help my case. It would just feel really good to have someone else on my side in there.

And, THANK YOU EVERYONE 😊  I am so greatful for the love and support I've received.  I am so energized to give back to my community even more once this is over.

I will let everyone know how Court goes tomorrow by noon  💙

Jess has gone to court to get a writ to stop the landlord from evicting her.  It will sit on a Judge’s desk for 10 days until a decision comes down.  The fact that the City of Manchester Welfare Department called her landlord after she testified at the Mayor and Aldermanic meeting how the Welfare Department had come in under budget 2 years in a row and have denied many of her clients help.  No Welfare Department should be coming in under budget if they are meeting the needs of an under served population!  Was this retaliation for her testimony- the bets are out.  Please help Jessica to retain her apartment that she shares with her 17 year old son…thank you!
