Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the establishment of the Drew Gordon Memorial Foundation, a new, nonprofit organization dedicated to creating educational opportunities for promising student athletes facing financial barriers who aspire to attend a high school of their choice.
Throughout his life Coach Gordon maintained an incredible philanthropic commitment to those around him. After a lot of discussion and reflection on what Coach Gordon would want, a small group of friends and Coach Gordon’s daughters decided it was time we did something in his honor.
At the heart of our mission is the Drew Gordon Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a deserving student athlete demonstrating both academic promise and financial need. Our foundation's board will oversee a comprehensive application and interview process to select scholarship recipients who embody the values of academic excellence and athletic engagement that Drew Gordon championed throughout his life. We will look for qualities that Coach Gordon demanded of his players: discipline, perseverance, accountability, and commitment to the team above self.
In addition to financial assistance, we are developing a mentorship program that will pair scholarship recipients with alumni who knew Coach Gordon well. We look forward to sharing more details about this initiative in the coming months, along with other fundraising activities.
