It is with broken hearts and an urgent plea that we reach out to you for support. Our dear sweet friend and sister, Ashley, has now received the devastatingly unjust conviction of manslaughter. But the fight isn’t over! We won’t give up working to support Ashley and bring her home!
In September 2020, Ashley was attacked by her abusive, estranged husband in her own home and in her own bedroom following years of domestic abuse, threats and coercive control. She acted in self defense to save her life and ran for help.
In cases like Ashley’s, a woman becomes trapped in an abusive and scary relationship only to then become trapped in an abusive and scary legal battle in the often unjust Justice System. This story happens all too often...
We strongly believe that had the jury been given the FULL story and history of domestic violence the outcome would have been very different. We are currently taking the steps to fight this conviction in the appeals and bring our friend home. But the fight is costly. We at We Stand With Ashley are raising funds to help pay for Ashley’s extensive and ongoing legal fees and to support her current needs during this time. No survivor should have to give up the fight simply because they cannot afford the fight.
So who are we? We Stand With Ashley is a group of Ashley’s close friends and supporters who are working to bring awareness not only to Ashley’s story, but to the stories of so many criminalized survivors of domestic violence.
