I don't remember when Adnan starting joining us on Facebook for morning prayer. The lockdown in America was well under way and 1000s of people were dying every day in the US. Then he and his wife came to church, first watching the live feed through Facebook and then joining us on Zoom and staying for our virtual coffee hour. Adnan and Sadaf are Pakastani Christians. Sadaf has a Masters in Education and English Literature and Adnan holds a Bacherlors of Arts in Theology. Being a Christian in Pakistan means you can get an education, but the same jobs are not open to you as they are to those who are Muslim. That's just the nature of a society that doesn't value freedom of religion. Sadaf and Adnan both volunteer for Minorities Alliance Pakistan, MAP, a human rights movement in Pakistan. It was established to fight for equality, justice, peace, prosperity, democracy, and religious freedom for the religious minorities of Pakistan. You can find the organization on Facebook.
Adnan communicates with me often and with a few of my parishioners. He sends pictures of his family and he is very proud of the work Sadaf does in their church, preaching and being an outspoken activist for religious freedom in Pakistan. Ariel was born with cataracts that were operated on at two different times which they paid for with a loan they are still paying off. Sadaf has covid and is slowly recovering.
The dollar goes much farther in Pakistan than it does in the US. Whatever you can do to help with food and medicine for Adnan and his family would be greatly appreciated.
They have never asked me or the church for help, but they sure could use It.
Thank you for reading.
Blessings, Rev. Holly Cardone
