Our son, Benjamin, was born on January 22, 2022 with a unilateral cleft lip and pallet. He was diagnosed via ultrasound at 20 weeks gestation.
We temporarily moved to Houston with our one year old (while leaving our oldest home to attend school) on January 10 and left to come back home on February 3. In that time frame, our home in Louisiana flooded due to a pipe burst from freezing temperatures. Since then, we have been traveling back and forth once every week from our temporary home in central Louisiana to Houston so Ben could get specialized care at Texas Children's Hospital. He meets with his orthodontist every week to tighten his retainer and check on his cleft to make sure it is getting smaller so we can prepare for surgery. We also meet with a cardiologist to check on the fluid that was found in his heart at 30 weeks gestation and at birth.
