FAITH. FIGHT. FAMILY.

In July 2024, Bolles upper school math teacher Santiago Gomez was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer, a life-changing moment that began a journey of incredible strength, determination, and faith.  Over the past year, he has undergone intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments in the fight for his life.

There have been some hopeful moments - Santiago's original tumor has shrunk and is causing less discomfort.  Last December many of the liver metastases had shrunk!

However, the cancer has since metastasized to his liver (again), lungs and chest, bringing new pain and requiring additional radiation this July.  As we face this new school year, he will continue both chemotherapy and radiation.

Despite the challenges, Santiago continues to face this battle with courage, optimism, and deep faith.  He is a devoted father to two beautiful daughters, ages 6 and 11, and is surrounded by a community that loves and supports him.

His wife, Melanie, is a Bolles alumna, and is also a passionate educator - she continues to hold her family together with grace and strength. But the cost of this journey - emotionally, physically, and financially - is immense.

How Can You Help????

Cancer is not only a medical battle - it's a financial one.  Medical bills, holistic care, organic nutrition (Whole Foods), supplements, and essential vitamins are expensive and ongoing. Every dollar donated helps ease that burden and allows the Gomez family to focus on healing and hope.  Whether you are able to give financially or simply lift them up in prayer, your support matters deeply.  If you are a prayer warrior, please wrap the Gomez  family in your daily prayers - for healing, peace, provision and strength.

From Our Community to Theirs

Santiago is more than a patient - he's a father, husband, colleague and friend.  Let's show up for him and remind the Gomez family that they are not alone in this fight.  Thank you for your support, your generosity and your prayer.

Thank you all for checking in on Santiago and his family.  This has been a very difficult week for Santiago. After he was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday, and following many tests, medications and a procedure to drain his lung, we learned that the cancer had progressed quickly with widespread nodules.  The cancer has taken over his lungs and very rapidly. Because of this, they'll be bringing him home for comfort care.  The focus will be to give him rest, peace and time surrounded by family and friends.  His health is very delicate and his immune system is not very responsive.

The family is deeply grateful for your love and support. Thank you for checking in on them, lifting them up in prayer and for being patient as they navigate this hard season. Your friendship and care truly carry them.

The girls know that he will be coming home, and they are working with a social worker through community care to help them understand what is happening in a way that is supportive to them

Again thank you.
