I have had many jobs and several careers in my lifetime. From Walt Disney World to IBM, I have dabbled in a bit of everything, sales, quality assurance, IT tech support, pizza delivery, people delivery... In the last 18 years, I have served my church in many capacities, have been on the PTA, run a Girl Scout troop, ran a neighborhood swim team, and home schooled my children.
Then I went through a nasty divorce and now Purple Dawn has decided what she's going to do when she grows up. I have always been fascinated by learning and I have chosen a field that requires constant learning, trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys...
Cybersecurity.
Constant challenges, puzzles, mazes, and thinking like the bad guys to be a good guy. I am in serious need of an update to my IT skills. There's only one stumbling block, tuition.
I am about to complete an Introduction to Cybersecurity through NC State University and HackerU (a program put together by the top Cybersecurity experts in the world). On Thursday, May 27, 2021, I will take the final exam for the 'short' course and God willing, go onto the 10 month program. I have no doubts as to my ability to pass the exam with flying colors (mostly shades of purple). On that date, I will need to give NCSU $3875.00 to save my seat.
The remainder of the Funding is for the required monthly payments for the following 8 months and the cost of a few of the 'outside' certifications. The program will include lectures, hands on labs, Cywar practice, projects and exams on each Module and sprinkled in between will be 'side' studying for different applicable certifications, CompTIA Security+, CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), and many others. I will be completing projects that will be available on my LinkedIn profile so that potential employers (or those that need an intern in the interim) will be able to see first hand what I have accomplished and what I am working toward with this Professional Certificate.
