If you’ve spent any time around our family, you probably know Nova. She truly believes every person who comes to our house is there to visit her. Being the center of attention is easily her favorite thing.
She spends her days running the fence line in the backyard talking to all the neighborhood dogs, helping wrangle the chickens like she has an official job, and then crashing hard afterward because snuggles and cozy cuddles are just as important to her as adventure.
Recently Nova started limping with what seemed like an unknown injury. We hoped it was something minor that would heal on its own, but it hasn’t.
The vet now believes she has a CCL tear, which means surgery will likely be needed for her to walk and run normally again. Right now we are also still trying to rule out cancer, so there are still a lot of unknowns ahead for her.
Over the past couple of weeks things have become harder for her. She’s now struggling with eating, refuses to take her pain medication, and has been getting sick several times a week. Watching such a joyful dog slow down and struggle has been really hard on all of us.
Nova has always loved keeping up with the kids and being wherever the action is. Seeing her uncomfortable and unable to do the things she loves is heartbreaking.
As a family of eight with six kids still at home, unexpected expenses like this add up quickly. We want to do everything we can to help her heal and get back to being the dog who keeps up with our busy home, but we can’t do it alone right now.
