Arafat’s Story
Arafat is 30 years old.
He is a son, a brother, and an uncle — and the primary caregiver for his family in Gaza.
Every day, Arafat wakes up with one purpose: to keep his family alive.
He cares for his father, who lives with Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and gangrene in his foot. His father needs ongoing medical attention and constant supervision. Arafat’s mother suffers from severe cartilage problems, making movement painful and difficult. He also supports his widowed sister and her two young sons, Zain and Mohammed, who depend on him completely.
Before the genocide, Arafat was a talented painter. Today, his life is devoted to protecting those he loves.
He does not ask to be pitied.
He asks not to be alone.
