This past year has been the hardest of my life. I lost three of my SPCA rescued beloved pets — my family — in just 12 months. Buddy, my bird of 27 years - 3 days after my last B-day. Leeba, after kidney failure and multiple procedures -- would have been 18 in 12/2026. And just this week, Princess-- after many meds, ER & vet visits -- who passed from congestive heart failure while I had her on my lap -- cuddled in her favorite bed and blankets. She was 14.5 years old. My poor babies... my heartaches daily.
I did everything I could for each of them: multiple ER visits, surgeries, medications, special treats, aftercare, cremation, diagnostics — whatever it took to give them the best... as they so deserved. (To think anyone gave these beauties up... boy did I score... what a blessing to me... to each other.
I’ve tapped my savings, my IRA, and my 401K. I would do it all again without hesitation, but the financial impact has been devastating. My ability to retire is now likely delayed by years, and I’m dealing with my own health challenges on top of everything.
I still have two senior dogs who depend on me (Loca and Bella), and they will inevitably need care as they age. I’m trying to stay afloat emotionally, mentally, and financially after losing so much so fast. The home is not the same with three pets’ personalities and energy missing. My heart aches daily. Many of you can relate, which is why I’m reaching out.
