For those of you who do not already know his story, On March 18, 1997 our father, Horace Muhammad was paralyzed by a Baltimore City police officer, Joseph Tracey. Since his paralysis 26 years ago he has had a broken leg & hip (from two separate incidents of trying to transport him), shot in his stomach (random Drive-by shooting), and recently became a double amputee as a result of bed sores and circulation issues. He has undergone numerous surgeries due to life-threatening infections from bed sores/ulcers. We are trying desperately to raise funds to purchase him a new hospital bed as Medicare will not approve another hospital bed for three more years and they will not pay for what he really needs to address and relieve/reduce bedsores. He needs a full electric hospital bed. Most importantly, he needs a medical air mattress with Alternating Pressure, Low Air Loss, & Lateral Rotation. These features will help relieve pressure by moving the air around, reduce moisture, and turn him from side to side (which he nor we can accomplish in order to minimize/eliminate sores due to his debilitating condition). I have included details about the bed we plan to order for him. The hospital bed costs $2,550. The medical air mattress costs $4,930 total cost is $7,478. Anything we raise over that amount will go towards his needs that Medicare and his monthly income does not cover/barely covering such as weekly in home health aid, bedding, non-emergency ambulatory transport (ambulance is the only way he is able to be transported), etc. Any donation is greatly appreciated. If you’re not comfortable with donating through GoFund me, there are other options. Thank you,
Muhammad Family
