On April 26, 2024, a severe thunderstorm resulted in catastrophic flooding in Kaufman County, Texas, and especially within the Becker Community, in rural Kaufman, Texas. The 134 year old church is one of only four remaining properties within this historic settlement. The church incurred significant damage, including structurally to its foundation. A survey to determine all the damage is underway. Estimates are being obtained to repair the building structurally and the damage to walls, carpeting, et cetera. The $100,000 Spotfund goal is more of a place holder pending the final estimate. It is anticipated to be more in the $400,000 range to do all the repairs to the church and grounds. In all likelihood, the work will require the removal of the entire floor of the church. The damage investigation includes addressing any mildew or mold issues due to the water. The flood waters also resulted in erosion of the private drives within the grounds of the church. Work is needed to enlarge the existing culvert system and determine other measures to safe guard the church from future flooding. Ours is a small, older congregation without the financial resources to pay for all of the repairs and required infrastructure improvements. We seek your help through your financial donation and prayers for its recovery. God bless you and our sincere thanks for your generosity.
