I have never done this before but my heart is hurting for one of my old students mommas and three little girls. Unfortunately they need more than we can financially help this time. She has not asked me for a dime and every time I help her she is SO appreciative so I really want to try and help her as much as possible. (She has no idea I’m doing this or trying to help financially)
I won’t go into all the details but long story short the mom and three girls (5,7,9) have been living in her parents living room in their one bedroom apartment for the past year. She lost her job due to Covid and couldn’t pay her rent so they got evicted and went to her parents place. Early on in the year she was busting her butt working doordash all night with the kids in the car so she could save for her own place. Unfortunately her car broke down and was going to be more to fix than the car was worth so she wasn’t able to do that anymore. Then my friend helped her get a job working remote but it was only a temporary job and was completed after 2 months. Then it was summer time so she couldn’t do much with 3 kids home all day long and no one to watch them. As soon as they went back to school she applied and got another remote job. She just started onboarding for her new job today and will officially start on the 16th. However, 3 weeks is clearly not enough time to save for her own place.
Her parents are moving and kicking her and the three kids out October 6th. She has called all the woman’s /kids shelters and they are full, all the government assisted housing is full and they will not give her unemployment because she worked her last job for less than 90 days.
She is an amazing mother and loves her children very much. She told me the other day she has been crying so much because she is scared they will take her kids if they don’t have a place to lay their heads at night. She said she would rather die than have her kids taken away :( I’ve been around/involved with foster care for 13 years and she is not a mother who deserves to have her kids taken away. She is completely sober, makes sure her kids are taken care of, and they are very well behaved. She is not someone sitting around wanting things handed to her-she has been working, but like I said she lost her car then the job ended and she now has a new job but she still needs help getting on her feet.
She has to pay an eviction fee of 2,590 and a duke energy bill of 244 before she is able to get approved for another apartment. My thought was to get her and the girls in a hotel for a month right near where they live so they can continue going to their same school. I called and they can stay at a place for 900 for the month. I will call and pay off her eviction fee and duke energy bill that way she can have a month and a half to save and get into an apartment.
Between the eviction fee, duke energy bill and a month in a hotel it would cost $3,714. This might be a long shot but I’m going to post it and let God handle the rest. If you are feeling blessed with a roof over your head, food to eat, and a job and are feeling called to give-even just $20 dollars this will change her whole world around.
