On the afternoon of March 14, 2022, Kira and Leif came home and greeted their three dogs, Nuka, Mula, and Tozzi.

They let the girls outside. Spring in Minnesota means it was a mix of snow and rain out so they came back in wet.
The girls were excited and ran to their favorite couch spots in the living room, but the baby gate had not been taken down yet. The excited dogs and slippery water, led to a catastrophic accident. 120 pound Mula slid into 50 pound Nuka, who slid into the gate.
Within minutes Nuka lost her ability to use her hind legs, and became extremely distressed in pain.
Kira and Leif rushed her to the emergency vet. She was sedated, x-rays were taken, and they were sent home with medication to keep her comfortable until they could get a neuro consult and an MRI.
Kira and Leif have been dedicated dog owners and have carried medical coverage on their pets. However, they decided to switch insurance carriers. The old policy ended Friday of last week. The new policy doesn't begin until Thursday March 17th. It was a gamble to take a few days without insurance. No one could have predicted this. This means none of Nuka's treatment now, nor going forward will be covered by insurance.
Nuka is facing a long road of medication, therapy, possible surgery, and potentially permanent loss of the use of her back legs.
Kira and Leif have used every available credit option they have, but the bills are piling up and are only going to continue.
We are raising funds to help ease this financial burden so they can focus on Nuka and getting her back to the loving happy dog she was.
