Help Me Continue My Journey at Spelman College
My name is Timiah Gallishaw, and I am a first-year Economics major at Spelman College from Louisville Kentucky. I am reaching out with deep sincerity and urgency, hoping you will consider supporting me financially through college. Coming from a single-parent household as the oldest of three siblings, I have always taken on significant responsibilities to support my family. From an early age, I worked jobs and started side businesses to help pay bills and provide for necessities at home. Despite these challenges, I made the life-changing decision to attend Spelman—an opportunity that I knew would allow me to grow, learn, and position myself to make a lasting impact in my community.
To finance my education, I have taken out loans and used my personal savings, but I am now facing a remaining balance of $9,661 for the spring semester. I pay for my own schooling and managing this financial burden while balancing my education has been incredibly difficult—both mentally and emotionally. However, I believe that "faith without works is dead" (James 2:14-26),
Beyond my studies, I am deeply passionate about financial literacy and economic empowerment, especially for underserved communities. I founded Mini Millionaire, a financial literacy initiative dedicated to equipping individuals with the tools to generate income and build financial stability. I also volunteer with Junior Achievement and Scholars for Dollars, where I teach K-12 students the fundamentals of budgeting, saving, and responsible spending. Additionally, I am an active member of Alt Finance, the Spelman Economics Club, and Scholars of Finance, working to create opportunities for Black men and women in finance, business, and entrepreneurship. Receiving financial assistance would not only allow me to continue my education at Spelman but would also ensure that I can remain focused on my studies, expand my business, and continue serving others through mentorship and community work. Your support would mean the world to me—not just as a student striving for success, but as a young woman determined to break financial barriers for myself and future generations.
I am truly grateful for any assistance you can provide. Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for believing in my potential, and for helping me stay on this path toward creating meaningful change.
Sincerely,
Timiah Gallishaw
