Moving to Texas alone at 15 was daunting, but it was a step toward building a future I could be proud of. I've navigated a lot on my own since then, moving constantly between cities under different guardians. Each move brought new challenges and the loneliness of not having a permanent place to call home. Now, at 18, I've settled in Desoto, my 10th move and third just this year. As I attend Desoto High, I'm labeled a Mickenny Vento kid, signifying my status as a homeless adult.
Graduation is just around the corner, with the date set for May 20, 2026. It should be a time of excitement, but dealing with the uncertainty of where I'll end up next has been tough. College is on the horizon, starting in June, and it fills me with hope, yet I know the path won't be easy. Finding work has been a struggle, adding to the financial anxiety that comes with being on my own.
My goal is to raise $1,000 to help bridge the gap and support me as I transition into college life. This would mean being able to cover essential day-to-day expenses, easing some of the stress as I work towards securing a brighter future. With each challenge faced, I've learned resilience and the importance of taking small steps forward. I hold on to my dreams and the belief that with a little help, I can create the life I’ve been striving for since moving to Texas.
