As most of you know, Nigel is my baby, he is a 5 year old English bulldog. A gentle, sensitive, intuitive, strong and witty boy. He’s brought so much laughter and happiness to me, my friends and clients. I just want to be able to return the favor- he deserves a life and he deserves to live.
Originally, when he went to the hospital, he couldn’t breathe and he was turning blue. Which is common to smooshed face dogs. Part of the issue is called Brachycephalic airway Obstructive syndrome (baos). It’s some thing that any smoosh face dog is predisposed to. In this case, it was extremely advanced. English bulldogs have an extremely high tolerance for pain and normally when something happens- they don’t show signs of pain like most dogs.
Surgery 1: He had a soft palate resection , saccules , larynx . Then they Kept him in an oxygen chamber. A few days later he still had a hard time breathing and was not improving
Surgery 2: he had a temporary tracheotomy. The vet said give it a few days for the inflammation to go down… they would try to plug the hole in the temporary tracheotomy to see if henwas able to breathe without it, no improvement.
So this past Friday we decided to do a permanent tracheotomy.
He will have a hole in the front of his throat, similar to what you would see in smoking commercials, for the rest of his life.
He did great Saturday , but then Sunday night at 11:15 I got a call from the surgeon…he developed aspiration pneumonia and now he’s in critical care
If you’ve had the honor of meeting him, you’ll learn very quick that he is a clown, he loves to make people smile. You can’t help but to laugh when he is around. He’s been my sidekick and has helped me through so much.
My friends and I put this go fund me together for nigel‘s medical bills.
If you could donate anything at all, we would be so grateful! Every dollar helps. And if you cannot donate monetarily, then I ask please If you could pray for him.
Speaking on behalf for Amanda and Nigel , they would be so appreciative.
