Millie has been a part of our family since she was just a baby. After her biological mother was arrested for felony drug charges and child endangerment, CPS asked her grandmother to take her in. When her grandmother couldn't take her because she already had her older sibling who is autistic due to their mothers drug use and being born addicted. The grandmother a friend of ours asked if we could help. We stepped in as her godparents, wanting to give her the safety and love every child deserves. For over three years we have been Millie’s only family, she knows us as her parents, and our home is the only one she knows. Unfortunately I was in an accident last year that put me on disability from being a truck driver.
Earlier this year, Millie’s biological mother, recently out on parole, tried to take her with force from our home. The attempted abduction left Millie deeply traumatized. She now hides when the doorbell rings, wakes up crying at night, and has regressed in her potty training. It breaks our hearts to see her so afraid, and we are doing everything we can to help her heal. Taking her to child psychology sessions. We’ve also started legal proceedings to become her guardians, but because we aren’t immediate family, the process is complicated and expensive.
We are reaching out for help because the costs of therapy, psychology appointments, and legal fees have become overwhelming. I have been on disability for 2 years which is enough for us to live on comfortably, and our savings and credit are exhausted from trying to help this adorable little girls mental health and court cost trying to keep her safe. Most of what we raise will go directly to Millie’s therapy and care, with a smaller portion for legal expenses. Any and all help is appreciated—prayers, support, and sharing our story will help us most. Our court system isn’t perfect, but with your help, we hope to finally give Millie the security and peace she deserves.
