We are setting up this fund to help Brett rebuild his life and home after a horrific fire has destroyed his family home and all its contents. The fire started around 3am in the Waterton subdivision of Simpsonville, SC on July 4. Brett was cooking overnight so friends and family could enjoy some smoked brisket for Independence Day. Any of you who know Brett, know one of the many ways he shows his love and kindness is through cooking and sharing meals. He's a big burly friendly guy and a big teddy bear all at the same time. Brett would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and won't ask for help for anything - hence, we're setting this up for him!
Brett has raised his 2 children in this home since 2007. Fortunately, Kieli and Holdyn were staying with their mother the night of the fire, and Brett was able to get himself and his beloved dog Bailey out of the house as windows started exploding and before the 2nd story completely caved in. We are more than thankful he and Bailey were able to get out, and that is certainly most important.
Brett is working with his insurance company to see what the next steps are. While I've never gone through a total loss claim on homeowners insurance, I have heard horror stories of disagreements on values and what is covered, including the "do you have pictures and receipts" fun conversations with insurance. While he waits on dealing with all of that, we want to show our love and support to help him, Kieli, Holdyn and Bailey get to some level of normal with replacement clothes, computers, shoes, etc. When we say everything was lost, we mean everything. The keys and fobs to his truck burned up, and in order to get a new one made via the VIN number, he needs his title or registration and an ID to prove he is he, and he owns it. Guess what? He and the kids are going to have quite the long road ahead, and we want to support him!
