Hey everyone! By now, pretty much all my friends, family, and co-workers know about my accident. My mom started a GoFundMe account for those who want to donate there, and my friend Maria started a Meal Train for those who would like to contribute that way. All funding is going to the same place, but I wanted to be able to share the why behind this fundraising my mom is raising money for.
I have been in the hospital for 7 days now. I am hoping to be heading down to Florida for some acute rehab while my parents are making accommodations around the house to make it safer and easier for me to get around until I’m fully mobile without a walker or crutches again.
I have excellent health insurance, which I’m thankful for. My work started initiating the process of FMLA/short term disability as soon as they learned about my accident. The waiting period between approval and payments starting is 14 days. I still have not received approval, so my 14 days has not yet started. Until that time, at least I do have some PTO to help, but I think after this weekend, I will be out of PTO as well.
As of right now, they’re expecting me to be out of work for 4-5 months. I would love for it to be less than that of course, so we will see. Disability will cover a portion of my base pay, but not all. I’ll be able to manage just fine once the payments start up, but it’s the in between that is where my mom is trying to find help.
I would love to make sure my parents are getting help in adding things to make accommodations for me to get around, as well as helping care for my three kids while I’m out of work. As previously stated, meal trains are an amazing option! If local to Florida, I bet she would appreciate any and everything. If out of state, maybe gift cards through the meal train are an option.
My medical deductible is only $2500 for in network, and so far it looks like all is in network..so I’m hoping my medical bills don’t get crazy, but if they do - I’ll tackle that when the time comes as well.
My mom and dad are focused on ensuring that I am able to recover appropriately and not stress about bills. Easier said than done when you’re an adult and a parent of course. We know that not everyone is able to financially help. I get that!! Above everything else, we just ask that you keep us all in your thoughts and prayers as we work through another hurdle that life threw our way.
