I am a nurse who recently stopped working due to my health. For 29 years, I have worked in CCU, ICU, Burn Units, and most recently as the Nurse Manager for a local Family Medicine clinic. Seven months ago, I was diagnosed with a rare lung disease caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Without a double lung transplant, I only have a few years to live. My lung problems have persisted for the last nine years, and I have been on life support multiple times.
The funds raised will help me pay for caregivers, lodging near UNC for three months after my transplant, medical expenses, medications, respite care for my caregivers, food, and hygiene. I worked until June 19, 2026, and am currently waiting for disability and other assistance to be approved. I have never depended on the community for resources, as I was usually finding resources for patients under my care. Now, I am asking for help to assist me through this transplant journey and recovery.
