My daughter gets married on May 16, just days before her birthday on May 29. She has always been a beacon of hope and resilience, despite the years I missed due to my ego, my pride, my arrogance and immaturity. Missing her graduations, proms, and countless games has been my deepest regret. I met her mother when I was young, at only 19, and soon after, I was sent overseas. I was terrified and unprepared for fatherhood, and the physical distance was only a part of the gap that grew between us.
Just 3 years ago I was able to bring her down from Texas for her to meet me and the rest of the remaining family we have. After years of distance, silence, resentment and regret I have the chance to make up for lost time by being present in her life in a meaningful way—contributing to her wedding. It’s an opportunity to finally show up and offer her something from the heart at a moment that marks a new chapter in her life. It's not just about money but about creating new memories together, ones filled with love, support, and the healing of past wounds.
This fundraiser is a bridge not only between me and my daughter but within a community that champions healing and second chances. I reach out to those willing to help strengthen this fragile new connection. I envision a day not just marked by wedding vows but by our shared understanding, joy, and celebration. Each contribution helps rewrite our story—a story of forgiveness, of coming home, and of finally being the father she deserves.
