December 17, 2014. That was the first date I opened up a blank google doc and began writing my application for a teaching fellowship that would take me almost 10 years to finally be selected. TEN. This fellowship is THE one thing left on my professional bucket list, but funny thing is it was the FIRST grant/fellowship I ever applied for.
And I finally nailed it.
I finally was selected for the prestigious Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship—a two year partnership and professional development opportunity that includes a 2 week expedition to Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) in October with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions. I completed this last month. I was aboard a ship and able to see the southern most part of South America and its beautiful fjords, wildlife, and mountains, learning alongside 3 other amazing teachers from the US and NG and Linblad explorers, scientists, naturalists, photographers, and more. Talk about awe!!! Over the next year I will be implementing what I learned into my classroom and speaking in public at a couple of locations to teachers and other community members.
Unfortunately I have hit some roadblocks and am reaching out to you all. I will only receive HALF of my November paycheck (I will be deducted $1998) and on top of it, in July I might be docked for working 0.95 of a year, which means I may end up having to pay an additional $1400 to the state to have PSRS move it from .95 to a full year.
If you have any questions, please reach out. If you would like yourself or your business to be mentioned on board this ship as a partner, I would LOVE to talk about you or wear a shirt or pass out etc from your business.
Reach out!
Thanks for considering helping me financially back this trip. This means the WORLD to me.
