My first heart transplant was in 2011. Due to unforeseen medical complications after spinal surgery the time has come that i need a second heart transplant and due to my kidneys failing from the first transplant i also need a kidney transplant. If i do not get the double transplant i will die as my kidneys are failing and i have severe coronary artery disease and a handful of other medical issues due to original transplant and my organs just simply can’t take much more. CAV is very common i guess in transplant patients after 10 years this was something i just became aware of once diagnosed with it. when i was transplanted my life expectancy was 10 years i have made it 14 years. I have to start going back and forth between two hospitals in two different states as Ohsu does not do second heart transplants  currently let alone the complexity  of my medical situation.  At some point i will have to live in said state for 3-6 months pre transplant and once surgery is done i will also have to commute back and forth for at least a year or till they release my back to  Ohsu. I start my journey on May 29th with my first appt at Washington University with there transplant team. All money raised will go towards medical cost that are not covered, transportation cost of going back and forth, and living costs so that my family does sink while saving my life. my husband will remain here working and paying our current bills and taking care of our children as he has done for the last couple years, while i am gone and going back and forth.

for those of you that don’t know how this works when you have to go to another hospital than the one you are currently supervised by you have to travel to said hospital x amount of times to get established with them and for the doctors to get to know you and learn your case along with continue to see your hospital because they will both be over seeing me and my care till a year after surgery.  those trips will have to be via the plane as we have one car and my family will need it to get to and from work. flights are not cheap also given my condition it is a lot on my body to go up and have a long day of appointments and come back the same day. if you have ever been a transplant patient you know most times there is a whole agenda for the day of doctors, test, all the things. Then i must temporarily move to that state for 3-6 months given i know my body pretty good and so do my doctors and it takes longer to heal i have been told to plan on the 6 months. when relocating you have to be within 1 hr of the hospital because there is not a set date for anyone they get the page that your organs are in route and they call you in. you are only in the hospital a short time as they worry about infections and as you know hospitals are full of sick people but you still have to be living in the are for close monitoring and doctor trips are very frequent.  That will require ubers and or cab trips. the first few months is 2-3 times a week. after that it’s weekly till you hit 5 months. generally your there for a 60 days before surgery and the first 3-4 months after at which time you can return home but you still have to return for visits to hospital that performed their surgery that means more flights. months 4 and 5 is generally twice a week and if all is going well month 6-12 generally is once a month unless something comes up.   also while i am doing all this i will also have to make appointments at ohsu as it was explained to me i would be seeing both hospitals during this time. after the 12 months the transplanting office will then release me back to solely ohsu care. the money we are trying to raise is not for our current bills it is for flights and baggage fees for the duration of the whole process. It is for the temporary housing for one person for the duration i need to be there and all cost that come with that. it is for the ubers and cab fairs to get to and from appointments for the whole duration. It is for groceries while i have to temporarily be there. it is to cover taxes as both states charge taxes on everything.  Do i think we will raise any where this amount no especially with how awful i have seen many people be towards me for asking for help but i am still not giving up because no matter what i have to go to another hospital because my hospital is not currently doing the operation i need. is it a lot i am trying to raise yes it is but no one is forcing anyone to help and this is my life and if it was your you would do everything possible to. so if your going to be mean and hateful please just scroll past i got enough on my plate already.
