I am currently navigating a serious breast cancer diagnosis (estrogen and progesterone receptor positive), with an uncertain long-term trajectory and a treatment plan that continues to evolve as more information becomes available.
A significant barrier throughout this process has been financial access to care. Delays in treatment, specialist follow-ups, and supportive services have not been due to choice, but due to monetary constraints that have directly impacted the speed and consistency of my medical care. This has added both physical and emotional strain during an already complex health situation.
My upcoming treatment includes a double mastectomy, which is a major surgical intervention. This will be followed by a long recovery process, and I am also facing the possibility of reconstruction and additional procedures depending on healing, medical recommendations, and how my body responds over time.
Alongside surgery, ongoing cancer therapies are necessary, and these treatments are already creating difficult side effects and compounding existing health challenges. Managing this requires continuous medical support, monitoring, and stability that is difficult to maintain without financial assistance.
My goal with this fundraiser is to focus on three core needs:
Covering current and ongoing medical treatment, surgery, medications, and follow-up care not fully covered by insurance or assistance programs
Supporting recovery, transportation, and essential living expenses during treatment and healing while having the inability to work around multiple surgeries and treatments.
Acquiring long-term housing stability so that I am not, or my children, are left vulnerable during or after treatment if my health changes in the future as this is an aggressive sneaky cancer, I will never be listed as cancer free unfortunately. My goal is to be no evidence of disease found but the cancer that I have is hormone positive so no matter how well the surgery and treatment hopefully is successful my treatments because this is a hormone cancer I will never be listed as cancer free. The goal is to be NED (no evidence of disease) as a form of remission. The cancer that I have is very common to metastasize so no matter how well the surgery goes I have to maintain treatments 5 to 10 years minimum.
As a parent, my priority is maintaining stability, safety, and continuity for my children during an unpredictable and overwhelming time. I am trying to plan not only for immediate treatment, but also for the long-term reality that cancer care can extend far beyond initial procedures.
The fundraising goal reflects the reality of major cancer treatment, surgical recovery, and the financial instability created by delayed access to care. Any support helps reduce the pressure of navigating survival while trying to maintain basic stability for my family.
