My name is Heather and a few months ago I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an acute cancer of the blood and bone marrow. In my case, it was caused by chemotherapy treatments I received many years ago for ovarian cancer.
My oncologist says I have just under two years to live with no treatment, and if I go through more chemo my chances of survival are still only 25%. With these odds I have been looking into other options. My only hope of possibly going into remission completely is pursuing stem cell treatments, using healthy blood-forming cells from donated umbilical cord blood to restore my bone marrow’s ability to form new blood cells. But it’s very expensive, and not covered by insurance.
I’ll need a total of four stem cell treatments at $25,000 each, for a total cost of $100,000. Your donation in any amount is greatly appreciated, and will get me closer to the $25,000 I need to start the first treatment. Feel free to check back periodically and I will share my progress.
Many thanks, Heather.
