A New Smile for a New Beginning: My Journey to the Classroom
For years, my children and my family came before everything else. As a divorced mom, every dollar, every ounce of energy, and every moment of care went directly into ensuring my kids' needs were met, their appointments were scheduled, and their futures were bright. Navigating life after divorce and holding everything together for my children meant putting myself on the absolute back burner—and over time, that self-sacrifice took a quiet, painful toll on my health, starting with my smile.
Between the physical demands of pregnancy, years of postponed dental care, and directing every resource toward supporting my family through difficult transitions, my teeth severely deteriorated. Decades ago, I received a dental bridge, which has faithfully held on for 26 years. But now, that old bridge is failing. Every single day, I live with the uncertainty of hoping it will hold on just a little longer—knowing that when it gives out, I will be left with no top teeth at all.
Overcoming that weight meant holding onto a vision of a better future for our family. I went back to school, pouring my heart into my education so I could serve some of the most vulnerable and wonderful hearts in our community: elementary students with special needs. As I near the finish line of my degree, I am filled with pride for how hard I’ve worked as a divorced mother to rebuild our lives and start a stable, meaningful career. Special education requires patience, warmth, and an open heart—qualities I give willingly every single day.
However, looking in the mirror still brings a quiet ache, compounded by the constant fear of my bridge failing completely before I can step into my own classroom. Teaching requires standing before a room full of children, parents, and colleagues, communicating with warmth and clarity. I want to step into my classroom not only equipped with knowledge and compassion, but with the full confidence that comes from a healthy, permanent smile.
Dental implants represent far more than a cosmetic fix; they are a vital step toward restoring my health, my self-worth, and my ability to show up fully for the children I raise at home and the students I am stepping up to teach. After years of selfless giving, navigating life's toughest challenges, and living with uncertainty, receiving this care will allow me to finally look forward, smile without hesitation, and greet my future students with the confidence they—and I—deserve.
