For years Ashley has rescued Massachusetts wildlife – often using her own resources and volunteer effort. Now the need has outgrown what one person can carry alone.
In addition to existing expenses, Ashley is working toward obtaining a federal wildlife rehabilitation permit that would allow Fresh Start Wildlife Rescue to expand care to migratory birds. To make this possible, specialized pre-release aviaries must be built to meet state and federal standards — creating safe spaces where birds can heal, regain strength, and return to the wild.
What many people don’t realize is that wildlife rehabilitation is volunteer work. There is no government funding behind the rescues, emergency calls, supplies, feedings, medical care, or enclosures. Much of this work has been sustained through Ashley’s own time, energy, and personal financial contributions because she hates to turn animals away when they need help.
Every spring and summer brings more calls, more injured animals, and more lives depending on someone to help. Ashley has spent years being that person.
