My Brother's Fight to Beat Cancer
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my story. Hello, my name is Lorna Caddarao Floro. On May 31st, 2022, my brother, Voltaire Jesus G. Caddarao, had surgery for a complete thyroidectomy. Initially, he was recommended to get a biopsy because of a lump found in his thyroid. Upon getting back the result of the initial biopsy, it was found that it is Bethesda 5. According to the doctors the risk of malignancy is very high - 60 to 75%. Because of the condition and the very high risk of malignancy, the best medical approach to treat the diagnosis is to do a complete thyroidectomy (as mentioned earlier). The biopsy of the thyroid after surgery was confirmed malignant. It is papillary carcinoma.
My brother needs immediate and extensive treatments in order to fight his cancer, primarily radioactive iodine therapy. The number of doses for this type of therapy are as of yet undetermined. Actually, the FIRST dose of his radioactive therapy should have started FOUR weeks after the surgery but, due to lack of funds, could not be undergone. There are also other medical procedures that are required to be undertaken as part of his treatments: frequent body scans, ongoing visits to the endocrinologist, cardiologist (because of his heart medical condition) and otolaryngologist plus his daily maintenance medications. These will all be needed for him to help fight, and prayerfully, beat his thyroid cancer.
Voltaire presently lives in the Philippines with his wife and six children. He cannot work due to his physical condition and frail health and his wife is a simple homemaker. His life for him and his family there is extremely difficult that he won't be able to afford any of the proper and required medical treatments, procedures and daily medications necessary to help him fight the cancer. If, in any circumstance, he were able to work, his chances for finding a job are extremely low in this time of the pandemic and his poor qualifications. Seeking provincial and government help for funds will take a long time - time that he no longer has. He has no help except from me. I am worried and scared that I am not going to provide the recommended and required medical treatments he so urgently needs.
I, myself, have very limited resources. My work situation is also not favorable. I don't have regular work and, as hard as I've tried, finding a better paying job for me has not been successful. Our ongoing monthly expenses as well as our medical and health maintenance has made it extremely difficult (if not near impossible) to help me pay for my brother's medical treatments and expenses. I am his only source of financial help and, with his condition, am in the race against time.
I am appealing to your kind heart for your compassion and sympathy to help my brother. Please help me help my brother fight and beat his thyroid cancer. Again, thanks so much for your kind heart, sympathy and love. My brother desperately needs your kind help. Again, thank you so much.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Lorna Caddarao Floro, sister of Voltaire Caddarao - cancer patient
